Often over summer months, dry periods and lots of garden use will leave bare or thinner patches on your lawn, often combined with compacted soil. People with pets and children will often see the effects of this most of all. Also in the spring, if it has been a very wet and / or cold winter, you may have bare or thin patches where water logging has caused the grass to thin or die. Therefore March-May and September-October are usually the best times to re, or over seed your lawn. You will need to keep off the seeded areas until new seedlings are firmly established. And watch out for birds, they seem to think it is treat time! You will also need to water the seeds in if followed by a particular dry spell.
